Manila, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao has given his Canadian adviser Mike Koncz the marching orders to begin exploratory talks with Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum regarding the staging of his much-awaited ring return in September.
As Pacquiao is neck-deep in the buildup for the May elections, Koncz is slowly laying the groundwork on the Filipino’s first fight since the sixth-round knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez last December.
Koncz is meeting with Arum this weekend to discuss various options concerning Pacquiao’s proposed comeback in mid-September in a venue preferably outside the US owing to tax purposes.
“We’re looking at Macau, Singapore or Mexico City,” said Koncz yesterday from Los Angeles.
A few days ago, Pacquiao told a group of reporters that boxing is still far from his mind but Koncz said that is partly true.
“Yeah, he’s into the elections but we’ve talked about his next fight.”
Koncz said a fifth fight with Marquez is not the only option.
After he sits down with Arum in Las Vegas, Koncz said he’d have an idea what the future holds for Pacquiao.
Arum’s Top Rank Inc. has a contract with Pacquiao until the end of 2014 and the fighter is expected to fulfill two to three fights before their agreement expires.
