Fire hits building in Manila

Manila, Philippines – A fire hit a commercial and residential building in Manila yesterday.

Initial investigation showed that the fire started inside the two-story commercial-residential building at the corner of Ayala Boulevard and San Marcelino St.

The fire reportedly started from the upper floor inside a beauty parlor and spread towards other establishments.

The fire reached the fifth alarm as the flames spread toward the rest of the building and some 15 other establishments.

The fire was put out at 6:32 a.m.

Fire Chief Inspector Bonifacio Carta of Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Manila said that the fire quickly spread because most of the establishments were made out of wood.

The intersection was temporarily closed to vehicular traffic to allow firetrucks in the scene more space to maneuver.

Some P1.5-million worth of property was destroyed in the fire.

Firemen believe that faulty electrical wiring might have caused the fire. (Rizal S. Obanil)
