Light of Culture awardees announced

Manila, Philippines – LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT Light of Culture (Lampara ng Kultura), this year’s UNESCO awardees are called, celebrating World Theater Month (March) and World Theater Day (March 27). All the awardees ­ persons and institutions -are leading lights in propagating, enhancing, popularizing theater and other arts in the Philippines and other parts of the world.

Lisa MacujaThe theater award may well be considered lifetime achievement honors as the awardees are being recognized for being cultural workers, supporters, and performers for many years.

Spearheading the prestigious event is the International Theater Institute, an adjunct of the UNESCO World Organization for the Performing Arts.

AWARDEES -This year’s awardees, in no particular order:

Art patron Danny Dolor, critic Rosalinda Orosa, TV host Boy Abunda, dancer Lisa Macuja, actress Nora Aunor, writer Bert Florentino, stage stars Lea Salonga and Monique Wilson, painter Juvenal Sanso, and philanthropist George Yang.

What a prestigious list, each one outstanding in his field of endeavor, expertise, passion, and devotion.

Danny was cited in particular “for animating culture among various school groups, primarily Emilio Aguinaldo College Theater Center.“ Danny is also, among others, a patron of the Cultural Center of the Philippines since the ’70s.

Nora, Lea, Monique, and Lisa won honors abroad.

INSTITUTIONS -As earlier noted, the awardees include institutions which support art and culture -sponsors, benefactors, “angels.“

AIR 21, PLDT-Smart, Chowking, San Mig Coffee, Metrobank, SM, Seoul Institute of the Arts.

PLDT-Smart is owned by MVP (Manny Velez Pangilinan), who’s also the big boss of TV5. Metrobank sponsors arts competitions and education.

JUDGES – The selection committee (judges) is made up d of Vilma Labrador, Cecile Guidote , Alvarez and husband Heherson, Joe Lad Santos, Fray Paulo Casurao, , Tomas Ongoco, Fernando Peña, , Frank Rivera, and Isagani Cruz.

Cecile is the founder of PETA, P host of Radyo Balintawak aired on s DZRH, and heads various theater k and environmental groups.

Awards rites are set some time this month or next.
