104th Foundation Day of University of the Philippines Los Baños

Manila, Philippines – THE University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) opens its celebration of its 104th Foundation Day today with a program at the UP College of Agriculture (CA) Foundation Site or Pook Pinagtatagan. The CA is the “mother“ college of what is now known as UPLB. A trade fair will be held on March 6-10, 2013, and a symposium will be held on March 7-9, 2013, at the DCA AgriPark on the UPLB campus.

UPLB will honor its outstanding teachers, researchers, extension specialists, and administrative staff in a ceremony to be held at the Seniors’ Social garden. Among the distinguished guests who will grace the ceremony are Secretary of Science and Technology Mario G. Montejo and UP President Alfredo E. Pascual.

UPLB is a coeducational, publicly funded academic, research, and extension institution. It is one of the seven constituent universities of the UP System. Starting out as a College of Agriculture in 1909, it became a full-pledged university in 1972. Today, it has nine colleges and two schools, and 10 national research centers and institutes created by law. Nine of its research centers are recognized as Centers of Excellence.

UPLB has emerged as a leading academic institution in Southeast Asia. It is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge and to the education of students in science, technology, agriculture, forestry, veterinary medicine, and other areas of scholarship that best serve the Filipinos and humanity in the 21st century. It has produced 30 of the 112 members of the National Academy of Science and Technology of the Philippines and 13 of the 31 National Scientists of the Philippines.
