Manila, Philippines – Recognizing the invaluable contribution of the artistic creations in enriching the country’s historical and cultural heritage, February is National Arts Month (NAM) in the Philippines. Since the signing of Presidential Proclamation No. 683 in 1991 declaring the celebration of NAM every February, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) has been leading NAM activities.
In 2007, the various NAM activities were consolidated, leading to the birth of the Philippine Arts Festival (PAF). Today, the PAF is composed of the flagship projects of the seven committees of NCCA’s Subcommission on the Arts – architecture, cinema, dance, literature, music, theater, and the visual arts.
The NCCA, in partnership with private and government agencies has lined up events for PAF 2013 that promise to be a fulfilling feast for the senses with workshops, exhibits, forums, and performances that highlight the artistic brilliance of Filipinos. A highlight of the celebration is Likha ASEAN in Bohol on February 26-28, 2013, a festival and conference on community theater, creative industries, and community-based tourism.
There will be a cross-cultural exchange of experiences in the creative industries and cultural tourism between Lihok Bisaya, a cultural association of seven community-based cultural groups in other Asian countries. Capping the celebration of National Arts Month is Ani ng Dangal, in which Filipino artists and cultural workers recognized with top honors in international events, competitions, and festivals will be honored.
We congratulate the National Commission for Culture and the Arts led by Chairman Felipe M. de Leon Jr., Executive Director Emelita V. Almosara, Deputy Executive Director Marlene Ruth S. Sanchez, Plan/Policy Formulation and Programming Chief Marichu G. Tellano, and Program Monitoring and Evaluation Division Chief Adel M. Suemith, on the occasion of the 2013 National Arts Month and Republic of the Philippines Arts Festival. CONGRATULATIONS AND MABUHAY!
