Kaya booters nail first win

Manila, Philippines – Substitute Janrick Soriano scored a game-winning goal near the end of a lengthy stoppage time as Kaya escaped past Green Archers United Globe, 2-1, in a fight-marred United Football League match Tuesday at Emperador Stadium.

The 24-year old Soriano, a new acquisition from Pachanga, delivered the winner after a poor pass by the Archers at midfield to barely give Kaya its first win of the season.

Kaya’s victory came after Tating Pasilan equalize for the Green Archers following a bad clearance by Jim Junior Munoz.

The match was marred by a bench-clearing incident in the 67th minute that saw Archers reserve Elle Cagayanan getting sent off for delivering a flying kick at Kaya’s Dario Dakic.

Coaches Maor Rozen of Kaya and Rodolfo Alicante of Green Archers were also ejected for entering the pitch. The two later rued officials for letting the incident get out of hand.

Tricky winger OJ Porteria gave Kaya a 1-0 lead on a goal in the 27th minute.

Earlier, Freddy Gonzalez scored in the 22nd minute to help the Loyola Meralco Sparks a 1-0 victory over his former club Pachanga Diliman.

Gonzalez hit the back of the net for the second time this season to propel Loyola to the early lead with six points.

It was emotionally tough for Gonzalez, who not only used to own Pachanga but also scored 34 goals in win the second division crown last season.

But after getting the promotion to the first division, Gonzalez sold the club and transferred to the Sparks. (Jonas Terrado)
