Manila, Philippines – Globalport will have its first practice tomorrow with its reinforcement Justin Williams, a former NBA campaigner who is expected to give the Batang Pier that much-needed presence inside the shaded lane in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup next month.
The 6-foot-10 Williams suited up once for the Sacramento Kings in 2007 as a free agent as well as the Houston Rockets (2008). He arrived Friday evening and will start practicing with the rest of Globalport players Monday morning at the Moro Gym in Ateneo.
“He’ll give us that presence in the middle, he can rebound and defend and he can also score,” said Globalport basketball operations chief Erick Arejola yesterday.
A product of the University of Wyoming, the 28-year-old Williams who is a native of Chicago, Illinois played in the NBA Development League’s Dakota Wizards, averaging 12.1 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.08 blocks in 12 games.
His last attempt to stay in the NBA was when he signed by the Charlotte Bobcats, but after three pre-season games, he was waived by the team.
Globalport, owned by Mikee Romero, will be under new mentor Junel Baculi. (Waylon Galvez)
