Manila, Philippines – San Mig Coffee kicks off its title-retention bid against Barako Bull on the opening day of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Feb. 8 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The other match pits Petron Blaze against Globalport.
The conference, which features imports of unlimited height, is single round robin elimination with the top eight teams advancing to the playoffs.
The teams with the best two records will earn twice-to-beat incentives against the last two qualifiers, while the No. 3 to No. 6 finishers will play in the best-of-three crossover in the quarterfinal series.
The semifinals will be a five-game series, while the Finals a best-of-seven.
San Mig Coffee bagged the Commissioner’s Cup a season ago with the help of Best Import winner Denzel Bowles, but the 6-foot-11 center is still under contract in the Chinese Basketball Association and will be available only on the third week of February.
On February 9, Rain or Shine plays Alaska while Philippine Cup champion Talk ’N Text meets sister-team Meralco also at the Big Dome.
The weekend opening of the Commissioner’s Cup will have Barangay Ginebra and Air21 clashing in the main game of a double-header at the Araneta Coliseum. (Waylon Galvez)
