IMUS, Cavite – A police team arrested late Tuesday night three alleged “Termite Gang” members shortly after they were seen on closed-circuit television (CCTV) at a closed pawnshop in Barangay Bayan Luma II of this capital town.
Termite Gang is a group of robbers who dig a cellar tunnel leading to an establishment floor to steal money or valuables.
Their target is usually a pawnshop or any commercial establishments.
The digging thieves are also called by the police as Acetylyne Gang or Igorot Gang. Senior Superintendent John C. Bulalacao, Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) director, citing a report of Superintendent Hersan H. Mojica, Imus police chief, said that the robbery was busted after an operator of the CCTV at the LAJ Jaro Pawnshop saw a dug-up hole just beside the vault and a suspect with bonnet coming out before he shut off its camera.
The police team, whose assistance was sought by the pawnshop owner, nabbed the three suspects before they could flee and recovered 14 assorted tools, including an acetylene set, and men’s clothes. (Anthony Giron)
