Manila, Philippines – Viruses and spam messages forced the administrator of President Benigno S. Aquino III’s official Facebook page last Friday to momentarily bar its over two million followers from directly posting comments on his “wall.
However, Aquino’s “wall post” was activated anew hours later after the administrator “looked into the matter.”
“The wall post on P-Noy’s page is now activated. We had to temporarily deactivate to protect the followers of P-Noy (Aquino) from spamming and viruses. You may now resume posting your comments on the wall. Thank you,” the administrator’s said in a post.
Earlier during the day, the administrator announced the deactivation of the wall post. Commenting on posts made by the administrator, however, was still allowed.
“This is due to continuous spamming. We assure you that we will look into it and will allow followers to post as soon as possible. Let us be reminded to be very careful on clicking links on Facebook. Thank you,” the administrator said.
Some “followers” of the President suspected that the negative comments against the administration were the real cause of the shutdown of the wall post.
The President’s Facebook page was launched during the early days of the administration in 2010 as one of its “feedback mechanisms.”
Meanwhile, aside from social networking sites, spam text messages also flooded mobile phone users.
The subject of the text messages sent from anonymous mobile numbers was mostly derogatory against embattled Chief Justice Renato C. Corona.
