Pilipinas Akyathlon

Manila, Philippines – Foreigners dominated the 1st ever Pilipinas Akyathlon – The Philippine International Skyrace held Saturday at Mount Ugo, Bgy. Tinongdan, Itogon, Benguet.

Kenyan runner Eluid Kering outrun compatriot Jackson Chirchir for the men’s title while Malaysian Danny Gongot proved to be the better conditoned runner than Australian Julie Green for the women’s title.

The race organized by the Philippine Skyrunning Association (PSA), is a 34-kilometer out and back footrace that will test the endurance of the runners since the event is a mountiain train running at high atlitude of at least 2000 meters above sea level.

A winner of many local footrace, Kering timed at 3 hours 59.46 minutes while Gongot clocked at 4:29.16.

The local bets were bannered by Mario Maglinao and SEA Games gold medalist in cycling Marites Bitbit who finished third overall with time at 3:59.46 and 5:11.44 respectively.

For putting in their best efforts, Maglinao and Bitbit will represent the country in the 26th Mt. Kinabalu International Climbathon in Sabah, Malaysia this October.
