Manila, Philippines – The Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Directorial Staff, Deputy Director General Alan LM Purisima, was appointed by H.E. President Benigno S. Aquino III as the 18th Chief of the 148,000-string PNP, succeeding Director General Nicanor A. Bartolome, who retires on December 18, 2012. The turnover of command at PNP headquarters in Camp Crame on December 18, 2012, will have President Aquino as Guest of Honor. Purisima, who will retire on November 21, 2015, is the third to be appointed PNP Chief by President Aquino since June 30, 2010; the first was Director General Raul M. Bacalzo who retired on September 9, 2011, and replaced by Director General Bartolome.
Born on November 21, 1959 in San Ildenfonso, Ilocos Sur, he studied in public elementary and high school, and in the PMA where he graduated in 1981. He earned a Master in Public Administration from Manuel L. Quezon University in 1995. He joined the Philippine Constabulary (PC), serving on Nueva Ecija and Pampanga, then the Presidential Security Group (PSG), the PC Special Action Force, the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, the 151st PNP Mobile Force Company, the Western Police District, Regional Intelligence and Investigation Division/Task Force Gagamba of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), the Quezon City Police District Station 3 and Station 7, and the Task Group Luzon of Special Task Group.
He was appointed Regional Director of Police Regional Office-3 on July 30, 2010, and Regional Director of NCRPO on May 2, 2011, where he introduced his three-pronged approach: Service to the people, service to the community, and service to fellow police officers. He will head Task Force Halalan 2013 that will oversee law and order in the 2013 elections.
He received several awards and citations, among them the Cavalier Award for Command and Administration from the PMA Alumni Association and Bayaning Likas Parangal from President Aquino. He is Senior Grand Warden of the Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines. He is married to Maria Ramona Lydia Isidoro Purisima and they have four sons – Eumir Von Andrei, Rainier Van Albert, Alan Jr., and Jason Arvi.
