Water crisis in Iloilo City

ILOILO CITY, ILOILO — Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog of Iloilo City has considered Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) as unreliable.

“It can’t deliver its mandate anymore,” Mabilog emphasized after the Iloilo City Council approved his request to declare “a state of calamity due to water crisis.”

The local chief executive expressed dismay that MIWD can only supply 30% of the water needs of at least 50,000 city consumers, and added that nothing comes out of the MIWD pipes except air.

Residents in the districts of City Proper, Arevalo, Mandurriao, and Molo are the most affected with water rationing as the water supply is not stable during a 24-hour cycle.

As MIWD can no longer supply the demand of city residents, Mabilog said city consumers are forced to buy water from private water stations. (Tara Yap)
