Manila, Philippines – JUST A THOUGHT: Character is more important than talent. – Edwin Louis Cole
BEST ACTOR ALEX: Barely a year in the biz, Alex Medina claimed his first best actor trophy from Cinema One Originals Film Festival Dec. 3.
One of five children by stage-movie actor Pen Medina, 24-year old Alex won for his role in Palitan.
In a recent interview, Alex told us it was only last year that he seriously pursued acting. An older brother, Ping, is also an actor.
Within only a short period of time, Alex has chalked up several film credits, among them Pascalina and Mariposa, which were both finalists in the 2012 Cinemaone event.
Alex says his father serves as his mentor, who always falls short of giving him a workshop before any acting assignment. Between takes, he plays with a band that he himself formed, Alex in Wonderland.
BACK TO BASICS: As the bankable franchise series “Shake, Rattle, & Roll” reaches its 14th installment, director Chito Roño says it’s time to go back and pay tribute to the original film that started it all.
Roño calls back in the episode, “Pamana,” the original lead stars of a “Shake” episode in the first film, namely Janice de Belen, Herbert Bautista and Arlene Muhlach.
They’re joined in the episode by today’s current stars Ivan Dorschner, Empress Schuck, Gerald Pesigan Anna Vicente, and Fabio Ide.
In an interview, Roño says horror in “Shake 14” isn’t based on lots of gore for a change. The approach, he says, opts for a more chilly creepy effect.
The two other episodes in the 14th Shake are Lost Command (Dennis Trillo, Paulo Avelino) and Unwanted (Vhong Navarro, Lovi Poe). Shake is one of eight films taking part in the MMFF starting on Dec. 25.
WESTGATE ENTERTAINERS: Kitchie Nadal entertains mall goers at Westgate Center in Alabang on Dec. 12, followed by Barbie Almabis on Dec. 19.
