Manila, Philippines – The Artillery Foundation of the Philippines, Inc. in coordination with the National Chess Federation of the Philippines will hold a two-day charity chess tournament starting on Saturday at the Alpha Land Southgate Mall in Makati
“This tournament is being held so we can raise funds to for the AFPI’s collegiate scholars, who are children of our needy solides and members of the Army’s Artillery Regiment,” said Brig. Gen. Pedro Biasbas, AFPI president and Regiment chief, in Tuesday’s PSA forum at the Shakey’s Malate branch.
Tournament director Lt. Col. Lucito Clarin said that there will be team and individual competitions in both the traditional and rapid events.
Joining them in the session sponsored by Shakey’s, Smart and PAGCOR were Private First Class and National Master Rhobel Legaspi and Technical Sgt. Primitivo Virtudeza, who will lead the Army C squad in the tournament.
Also expected to compete are Grandmasters Joey Antonio and Darwin Laylo, who are both Army enlisted personnel, Clarin said.
This tournament is open all government, private and commercial establishments including schools and its employees and students.
Each group may field one or more teams composed of at least fo players but not more than five
players, who are bonafide employees or students.
