Manila, Philippines –CORY Quirino, exclusive licensee and national director of Miss World Philippines and Mister World Philippines contests, has defended Andrew James Wolff, Philippine Volcanoes player, who expressed disappointment after he won first runner-up in the 7th Mister World pageant held in London, England last Saturday.
“Always remember that the most disappointed winner in any pageant is the first runnerup. It’s normal. But we should be proud of him nonetheless. What an honor for the country,“ Quirino said in an exclusive interview.
Wolff, 27, who plays as a flanker to the Philippine rugby team, has expressed disappointment to the results of the male competition won by Francisco Escobar of Colombia. He was also quoted as saying that he is smarter than Escobar.
Hours after the contest, he called Quirino: “I am sorry I didn’t bring home the crown.“
Quirino told him how proud she was of him. “Don’t be sorry please. You have brought honor to our country.”
She also considers him and 2011 Miss World first runner-up Gweldoline Ruais as her children.
“He (Wolff) is my first son (just like my first-born, my first representative of Mister World).
Just like Gwendoline Ruais is my first daughter. Both have brought pride to our country for having won the first runner-up placing in the toughest pageants in the world.
The Filipino-Briton athlete-model, who stands 6’2“, also won the Mister World MultiMedia Special Award. So far, no date has been scheduled on his arrival to the country. The brawn and brains pageant for men is held every two years.
