Manila, Philippines – Various groups have raised $115 million to help feed school children in conflict-affected areas in Mindanao.
“We are proud to work together to ensure that hot meals are provided to needy conflict-affected children in Mindanao and to raise awareness on the issue of hunger in the Philippines and how to tackle it,” said World Food Programme (WFP) Representative and Country Director Stephen Anderson at the launching of the World Hunger Relief 2012 campaign at the Pizza Hut SM Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City.
Anderson said that the Yum! Brands World Hunger Relief Campaign has raised $115 million for hunger-righting organizations, including those affected by typhoon “Sendong“ in December 2011. He added that the WFP has reached some 7.5 million people in 44 countries, including the Philippines. Funds raised through the campaign support the WFP food assistance programs around the world, including school meals. (Robert R. Requintina)
