ARCHBISHOP PALACE, Cebu City – Following the canonization of San Pedro Calungsod, the Visayan martyr who is also the second Filipino saint, a series of thanksgiving mass will be held in the Archdiocesan Shrine of San Pedro Calungsod in this city’s Archbishop Palace.
The thanksgiving mass will be held every 6:30 p.m. starting October 22-30, while the archdiocese is also in huge preparation for the National thanksgiving mass next month.
Fr. Bonin Olivar, who officiated the mass in the shrine prior to the canonization rites in Rome last Sunday, cited in his homily the suffering and persecution of Calungsod as he also pointed out that the canonization was very timely as the Church is also celebrating the World Mission Sunday.
Hundreds of pilgrims were inside the palace last Sunday to attend the mass and witness the live telecast of the canonization made possible by the Cebu Catholic Television Network at the palace gym.
The gym was filled with positive emotions as pilgrims and devotees are clapping every time Calungsod’s name was mentioned. After the live viewing, a solemn procession inside the palace immediately followed, and culminated with a fireworks display. (Phoebe Jen Indino)
