PSC to fund weightlifters’ stint

Manila, Philippines – The Philippine Sports Commission yesterday approved the financial support for four weightlifters who will see action in the 19th Asian junior and 26th Asian Junior Men Weightlifting championship slated next month in Myanmar.

PSC Chairman Ricardo Garcia said the board unanimously approved the trip of Joshua Dinglasa, Kristel Macrohon, Nestor Colonia and Jeffrey Garcia.

Dinglasa and Macrohon see action in the 17-under junior division while Colonia and Garcia compete in the junior men category.

Of the four, Colonia, nephew of Seoul Olympian Gregorio Colonia, is the most senior, having competed in the World Weightlifting in Paris, France where he placed 13th and the Asian tournament in Korea.

Mayline Pablo was dropped from the list because she had little chance to win while Ruth Llena was removed from the lineup because of a back injury.

“The coaching staff headed by head coach Alvin de los Santos closely examined the comparative record of Pablo and found out she has slim chance winning her division,“ said former Philippine Weightlifting Association secretary general Roger Dullano.

Pablo was replaced by Ellen Rose Perez but the Bohol native got dengue, forcing the coaching staff to drop her from the list. (Clyde Mariano)
