UNA: Probe poll-related violence

Philippines – The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) has called on the Philippine National Police (PNP) to investigate alleged cases of election related-violence in Bansud, Oriental Mindoro.

The opposition party issued the call after Roy Modansa, who is running for mayor of Bansud, Mindoro Oriental under UNA, went to the Office of the Vice President last Wednesday to ask for help in behalf of his supporter Dominador Castillano who was allegedly “kidnapped, threatened and severely beaten.“

“I urge the authorities to capture the people who carried out these despicable acts. The persons responsible should be made to pay for their crimes,” UNA Secretary General, Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco said in a statement.

In his complaint affidavit, Castillano said he was on his way home when his motorcycle was suddenly blocked by an owner-type jeep and a motorcycle.

He said he was then blindfolded and taken to an unknown place where he was continuously beaten.

Tiangco said UNA is providing Castillo with legal advice and is assisting him in filing his complaint. (JC Bello Cruz)
