Manila, Philippines – Typhoon “Niña“ (international name: Prapiroon) maintained its strength as it continues to move northwestward yesterday, the state weather agency said.
As of 10 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) located the eye of typhoon “Niña“ at 790 kilometers (km.) east of Calayan Island, Cagayan.
It has maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour (kph.) near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph. It continues to move northwest at 7 kph. However, PAGASA said the typhoon is still too far to directly affect any part of the country.
Typhoon “Niña“ is expected at 555 km. east of Basco, Batanes this morning. By Saturday morning, it will be at 670 km northeast of Basco, Batanes and at 820 km northeast of Basco, Batanes by Sunday morning. (Ellalyn B. De Vera)
