Manila, Philippines – MUST-WATCH – Years back, Lino Brocka directed a classic titled “Ina Kapatid Anak,” topbilled by drama greats Lolita Rodriguez and Charito Solis.
Now airing on ABS-CBN is a soap with the same title, a must-watch, in the tradition of other Kapamilya programs, notably “Maalaala Mo Kaya” and “Walang Hanggan.”
Ina Kapatid Anak” is high drama starring Kim Chiu, Xian Lim, Enchong Dee, and Maja Salvador. Directed by Don Cuaresma and Jojo saguin.

TAKE TWO – Manny Valera introduced to select writers two of his latest talents, winsome ladies both. Mayton Eugenio, 22, and Janella Salvador, 14.
They follow in the footsteps of their mothers: choreographer-actress Geleen Eugenio for Mayton and actress-singer Jenine Desiderio for Janella.
Janella’s dad is also from showbiz, singer Juan Miguel Salvador. Mayton’s father is the late Antonio Hernandez, who died when she was only 10 years old.
Manny V manages Janella with ABS-CBN Star Magic, while Mayton is his sole talent.
US-EDUCATED – Mayton Eugenio studied for two years, marketing, in Los Angeles’ Pierce College, where she learned to be independent. She also took up dancing in LA.
She’s currently enrolled at St. Benilde, third year, in marketing. She describes her life as “work, school, home.” No time for lovelife, not even partying, “my choice.”
Work is “Party Pilipinas,” “One True Love,” “Time of My Life,” and “Magdalena.”
Mayton’s elder brother Migui is a choreographer like mom Geleen, a doting lola to Migui’s young son.
She’s about to start an indie, “Kaleidoscope.”
‘COLEGIALA’ – Janelle Salvador is a Paulinian, studying at St. Paul Pasig from grade one to seven. But she opted for home study, second year high, due to showbiz commitments.
She’s cast in “Be Careful with My Heart,” which tapes practically everyday. Janella has appeared in many commercials and a few stage plays.
In 2008, she represented the Philippines with two other kids in a world trade fair in Seoul, Korea.
She describes mom Jenine as a strict but at times liberal mother. Yes, Janella’s aware her mom starred in “Miss Saigon,” London’s West End.
