4 p.m. Navy vs Army
6 p.m. Sandugo vs Ateneo
Manila, Philippines – Sandugo-San Sebastian tries to keep its unbeaten run and make it two-in-row over Ateneo as they tangle at the start of the second round elims of the Shakey’s VLeague Open at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium today.
The Lady Stags swept their first five matches in the first round to virtually assure themselves of a spot in the Final Four but they are expected to further step up their game and build enough confidence heading to the playoffs.
They beat the first conference champions in three in the league’s opener last Aug. 19 and are looking forward to score a repeat over a skidding Ateneo side coming off back-to-back losses in the league sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza.
But hitters Fille Caingle and Dzi Gervacio are expected to be back in harness after missing their fourset loss to the Army Troopers last Tuesday but the Lady Stags, led by Thais Jeng Bualee and Kaensing Utaiwan, remain the favorite in their 6 p.m. match owing to their talent-laden roster.
Defending champion Army, meanwhile, hopes to firm up its hold of second spot (4-1) and likewise seeks a repeat over a struggling Navy side (1-4) at 4 p.m. while resurgent Cagayan Valley is also tipped to get past winless Far Eastern U in the 2 p.m. opener.
