MANILA, Philippines (PNA) – The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is hoping to restore power service immediately to its 440,000 customers affected by flooding caused by the southwest monsoon.
Joe Zaldarriaga, external communications manager of Meralco, said the electric distribution utility de-energized areas that were severely flooded to ensure public safety.
Zaldarriaga said about 373,000 affected customers are located in Metro Manila, particularly in Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela (Camanava), Quezon City, Manila, Mandaluyong, Navotas, San Juan and parts of Pasig.
“We hope that floodwater will subside later tonight. Then, we need to check if our electrical facilities serving the area are affected. Competent, qualified electricians have to check the customers’ facilities. We don’t want to compromise the integrity of our internal facilities. Our field personnel can then effect energization,” he said.
