Early campaigning?

Manila, Philippines – A militant youth organization slammed prospective Liberal Party (LP) senatorial candidates for allegedly exploiting the ongoing relief efforts for flood victims to engage in “early campaigning.”

The four nominees to the senatorial slate to be fielded by the LP coalition were caught on camera waiving at flood victims as they joined President Benigno S. Aquino III in an open military truck that led a convoy of vehicles carrying relief items for flood victims in Valenzuela City.

Vencer Crisostomo, national chairperson of Anakbayan, said social networking sites have described the act as “early campaigning.”

Among those who received strong criticisms for it were Aurora Rep. Sonny Angara, Bureau of Customs (BoC) chief Ruffy Biazon, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Director General Secretary Joel Villanueva, and losing 2010 senatorial candidate Risa Hontiveros. (Ben R. Rosario)
