MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOCS) has issued a Tsunami Alert Level 3 warning following a 7.7 magnitude earthquake that hit Eastern Samar at Friday evening.
Dr. Renato Solidum, PHILVOCS chief, said waves are expected to rise by 1 to 1.5 meters.
The quake’s center was located off the east coast, 91 miles off Guiuan, Eastern Samar.
As this develops, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council executive director Benito Ramos urged all residents residing in coastal areas fronting the West Philippines to be on alert for possible changes in tidal condition.
He added that they have yet to receive reports of casualties or damage from the tremor. (PNA)
