Bataan under state of calamity


BALANGA CITY, Bataan ­- Bataan has been placed under state of calamity following the worse flooding to hit the province since 1986.

Air Force helicopters rescued a number of people who were trapped by floods in Hermosa town while a boy is still missing after being washed away by strong current in Lucanin, Mariveles town.

Gov. Tet Garcia placed the province under state of calamity following an emergency Sangguniang Panlalawigan meeting.

Mayor Joet Garcia of Balanga immediately convened the city council after most of the barangays of the city were submerged by flash floods.

In Lucanin, rescuers were still looking for the young victim while Barangay Ipag was hit by a landslide.

“We are closely monitoring the situation because the flash flood caused up to chest-level deep in four barangays here,“ said mayor Jesse Concepcion, adding that more than 100 families have been evacuated to a church that served as their temporary shelter.

In Limay town, Mayor Ver Roque said they are rushing to give relief goods to the affected barangays.

In Pilar, Mayor Charlie Pizarro and his wife visited the affected barangays to distribute food and other relief goods.

In Hermosa, Air Force helicopters were dispatched to rescue people trapped on rooftops as Mayor Danilo Malana scrambled to provide help to low-lying barangays that have been isolated by floods,

In San Juan, Samal town, Mayor Gene Malibiran-dela Fuente reported that a number of houses were carried away by floods but assured that her emergency rescue teams are there to look after the victims.

Mayor Joel Payumo of Dinalupihan said that 90 percent of his town are under water. He reported that the Layac-Olongapo road is impassable to all kinds of vehicles.
