True measure of love, friendship

Manila, Philippines – DEEDS, NOT WORDS – What’s the true measure of love, of friendship?

I say it’s what you do and not what you say.

Words are cheap, meaningless when not accompanied by good deeds.

In this regard, I agree totally with Manila Bulletin colleague Shirley Matias-Pizarro when she wrote in her column, Scuttlebutt, last Sunday, July 15.

“Today, the King of Comedy will be laid to rest. While everyone practically has claimed a specific right to honor Dolphy, we strongly believe that TV5 deserves much of the credit.

“The Kapatid network contracted Dolphy during the twilight of his career. Even when his health was already failing him (and until the end), the management of the network took it upon themselves to give the icon due respect and honors by continuing with his show, ‘Pidol Wonderland,” with or without him on screen.

“It goes without saying that Dolphy received his compensation for the show continuously. That shows how much respect TV5 has for the talent of Dolphy. This is why we really do take our hats off to TV5 management when we think of ‘Mang’ Dolphy.”

‘KAPATID’ IS FAMILY—No wonder then, my dear Shirley, Eric Quizon said they consider the “Kapatid” network family.

Zsa Zsa Padilla and the Quizons are forever grateful to TV5 big boss MVP (Manuel “Manny” V. Pangilinan) and its executives for their kindness and generosity.

Zsa Zsa and Eric disclosed that MVP shouldered all the hospital (Makati Med) expenses of Mang Dolphy. Which must have amounted to millions and millions of pesos.

That’s what I meant by good deeds. Not empty and meaningless albeit high-sounding words.

Another Kapatid guy Zsa Zsa and Eric are grateful to is Willie Revillame, who stuck it out with Dolphy through thick and thin. Willie truly loved and cared for Dolphy to the very end. He may well be called the 19th child of the King of Comedy… and future National Artist.

PORTAIT OF TRUE LOVE – What is the true measure of love?

Zsa Zsa Padilla, Dolphy’s partner for more than 20 years.

She is the very portrait of true love. Dolphy was very lucky to have Zsa Zsa, his greatest love, the last woman in his life.

Zsa Zsa must be God’s gift to Dolphy for being such a kind man. Sure the King of Comedy has his failings and weakness like any other human being, but his nobility more than made up for them.
