Samar ex-mayor killed in Mandaluyong

By FRANCIS T. WAKEFIELD

Manila, Philippines – The former mayor of Motiong town, Eastern Samar was shot dead Saturday night by still unidentified suspects during a shooting incident in Mandaluyong City, a police official Sunday disclosed.

Senior Supt. Armando Bolalin, chief of the Mandaluyong City Police Station, identified the victim Constancio “Jun” Pacanan, 51, a resident of 38 Carrot St., Welfareville Compound, Mandaluyong City.

Bolalin said the victim died on the spot due to two bullet wounds he sustained as a result of the shooting incident which witnesses said transpired at 10:45 p.m.

It was learned that the victim was reportedly inside his house when two unidentified assailants armed with Caliber .22 and .9mm guns, shot him.

Bolalin said that they are still verifying reports that Pacanan’s two male visitors whom he was having a drinking spree with before the time of the shooting incident had a hand in his killing. Residents told investigators that they heard gunshots emanating inside the victim’s home and shortly after, two men went outside and escaped towards a still undisclosed destination.

The victim’s body was immediately taken to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Crime Lab for autopsy. Bolalin said investigators led by Senior Police Officer 1 Desilito Custudio of the Mandaluyong City Police Criminal Investigation
Unit (CIU) is conducting a probe to determine the motive and the identities of the suspects.

Meanwhile, two people were killed at 6 a.m. during a 3vehicle collision along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) crossing underpass in Barangay Highway Hills, Mandaluyong City.

Bolalin identified the victims as Jose Porlaje Duritan Jr., a resident of San Juan Del Monte (SJDM), Bulacan and Emmanuel Tolentino, company driver.

He said that the victims were on board a Tamaraw FX taxi and traveling at the northbound of EDSA when a sports utility vehicle with plate number PJQ911 and driven by Daniel Joseph Condangan, of 55 N. Ramirez St., Galas, Quezon City bumped their vehicle from behind.

As a result of the impact, the Tamaraw FX reportedly swerved to the southbound lane of EDSA and in the process was again hit by an approaching Bataan Transit Bus Line driven by one Rudy Fernandez, a resident of Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan.

The victims were taken to the Mandaluyong Medical Center but were declared dead on arrival of the injuries they sustained due to the crash.

The incident also caused traffic along the area.

Bolalin said both Condangan and Fernandez were taken to the Mandaluyong City Police Station Traffic Enforcement Unit in Maysilo Circle, Barangay Plainview, for investigation.
