Manila, Philippines – Defending champion San Beda guns for the share of the lead with Jose Rizal University as it tackles a dangerous University of Perpetual Help today in the 88th NCAA basketball tournament
The 6 p.m. caps a five-game bill at The Arena in San Juan.
The other seniors’ match pits Mapua (2-1) against Lyceum (13) at 4 p.m.
The Letran Squires and the Emilio Aguinaldo College Brigadiers meet in the 10 a.m. opener followed by the Mapua Red Robins-Lyceum Junior Pirates tussle at 12 noon. The San Beda Red Cubs collide with the Perpetual Altalettes at 2 p.m.
The Red Lions scored their second straight win at the expense of Lyceum, 82-67, last week with eight players returning from one-game suspensions.
San Beda coach Ronnie Magsanoc eyes Baser Amer and Jake Pascual to continue steering the squad after their strong offensive showing in the previous game, along with Art Dela Cruz, who finished with impressive numbers .
The boys of Perpetual mentor Aric Del Rosario know they are up to a tough task to improve their 2-1 mark, but they are unfazed.
Del Rosario said they need to stop San Beda’s shooters while taking control of the rebounding department.
“Pipilitin naming manalo para maganda ang standings namin. Sa depensa, kailangan kontrolado naming yung sa rebounds lalo na’t wala yung import nila,“ said Del Rosario.
Perpetual is coming off an 80-65 loss to SSC also last week that put the team on a 2-1 slate, but the Altas are putting it behind to focus on their next foe. (KS)
