Manila, Philippines – Local wushu practitioners, led by last year’s world champion Jessie Aligaga, will see action in the 8th Asian Wushu championship slated Aug. 21 at the Phu Tho Indoor Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Headed by association president Tan She Leng and handled by coaches Ma Qing of China and former world champion Samson Co, the Filipinos will match skills against wushu specialists from 25 countries in sanda and taolu.
Aligaga spearheads the medal assault in sanda with Francisco Solis, Amado Benito, Ernie Braga and Mary Jane Estimar.
Benito and Braca are competing for the ﬁrst time in the Asian tournament.
Carrying the country’s tricolors in taolu are Daniel Perantac, Thornton Quency Ion Sayan, Eleazar Jacob, Engelbert Addongan and John Keithley Chan.
The Philippine Sports Commission chaired by Ricardo “Richie” Garcia bankrolled the participation of wushu in Vietnam. (Clyde Mariano)
