Manila, Philippines – President Benigno S. Aquino III said yesterday that there are more than 30 names vying for a slot in the Liberal Party’s (LP) senatorial slate for the 2013 mid-term elections.
“There are at least 30 or 32 names for the 12 slots,” Aquino disclosed during the mass oathtaking of new members of the LP at the Benguet State University in La Trinidad, Benguet yesterday.
He, however, did not mention the names of those who are vying for slots, saying, “We will announce at the appropriate time.”
It was recalled that the President has endorsed Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon, former Akbayan party-list Rep. Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel, Technical Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) Director General Secretary Joel Villanueva, and Aurora Rep. Juan Edgardo Angara as part of the LP’s senatorial slate. Biazon and Baraquel were part of the LP’s senatorial slate in 2010 but lost.
The LP is chaired by Aquino, with former running mate now Transportation and Communications Secretary Manuel “Mar” A. Roxas II as president. (Madel R. Sabater)
