Nationals rule PNG baseball tilt

Manila, Philippines – The men’s national team erupted for five runs each in the seventh and ninth innings to defeat the Youth Team, 12-2, and rule the POC-PSC National Games baseball competitions at the Rizal Baseball Stadium.

Aided by a maze of errors by their youth counterparts, the Nationals capitalized to pull away from a tight contest in the first seven innings and capture the competitions that lasted more than a week.

An RBI single by Justin Zialcita with the bases loaded in the top half of the seventh made it 3-1 before a throwing error and two wild pitches by PH Youth team hurler Tsuyoshi Horibata gave the PH clouters a big 7-1 advantage.

A two-run single by Chris Canlas set up a five-run ninth to settle the final tally.

Lefty starter Jonjon Robles struck out seven batters in five batters before righty Charlie Labrador fanned five as the Nationals made up for their lethargic 3-2 win over the same team in their PNG opener. (Jonas Terrado)
