Moderate quake hits eastern Indonesia

JAKARTA – An earthquake with magnitude of 5. 2 struck off eastern parts of Indonesia earlier Thursday, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said.

The USGS put the magnitude of the quake at 5.4 on the Richter scale.

The quake jolted at 04:55 p.m. Thursday (2155 GMT Wednesday) with epicenter at 62 km southwest Bolangondowsel of North Sulawesi and with a depth of 111 km, the agency said.

Indonesia sits on a zone vulnerable to quake known as “the Pacific Ring of Fire.” (Xinhua)
