Manila, Philippines – ALL IN THE FAMILY – What do showbiz and politics have in common?

Among many others, they’re “family-oriented.”

Look at the incumbent and aspiring senators. Many of them come from political families. The likes of Ponce Enrile, Guingona, Ejercito-Estrada, Cayetano, Escudero, Biazon.

Same is true in showbiz.

WOMEN OF ‘FAITHFULLY’ – Highspeed cites the women of the ongoing afternoon soap of GMA “Faithfully.”

Three of the five leading ladies are from showbiz families.

MAXENE MAGALONA is the daughter of the late master rapper and TV host-actor Francis M. His parents — Maxene’s lolo and lola – are movies greats Pancho Magalona and Tita Duran.

Maxene’s brothers (Elmo and Arkin) and cousin (Hiro) are also with GMA.
MICHELLE MADRIGAL’s mother is former sexpot Karla Kalua, the contemporary of Jaclyn Jose, Tanya Gomez, and Lovely Rivero. Remember them in the movie “Chica”?

Michelle’s elder sister Ehra Madrigal is also a GMA talent.

Heard that Michelle is not in good terms with her mom, but that’s another issue.

ISABELLE DAZA is the daughter of 1969 Miss Universe Gloria Diaz, who became an award-winning actress. Her dad is Bong Daza, man-about-town and former Makati councilor.

Isabelle’s grandmother, Nora Daza, is the culinary legend.

The late Rio Diaz, Mutya ng Pilipinas, is an aunt. Her cousins include such familiar names (and faces) as Georgina Wilson, Ilac Diaz, and Robin Da Roza.

Two other leading ladies of “Faithfully,” Isabel Oli and Vaness del Moral, have no known showbiz connections.

MARILOU’S SON – Come to think of it, the soap’s leading man, Marc Abaya, is the son of the great director and teacher Marilou Diaz Abaya.

Marilou’s masterpieces are “Jose Rizal.” “Karnal,” “Brutal,” “Moral,” “Muro Ami,” “Milagros,” and “Sa Pusod ng Dagat.”

Sadly, direk Marilou has cancer (stage four). She just turned over her film school in Antipolo to ABS-CBN and Star Cinema. Many of their directors are graduates of her film school.

May Charo Santos and sister Malou take good care of the Marilou Diaz Abaya film school.

Oh, Chanda is related to director Eddie Romero, National Artist.

“Love, treachery, and revenge” is the hype of “Faithfully.”
