Dolphy can now feel pain, smiles for the first time

Manila, Philippines – COMEDY king Dolphy can now feel pain, which is a good sign of health, a Makati Medical Center (MMC) official said.

The MMC, in a latest bulletin on the veteran actor’s condition, said Dolphy is now responding to stimulus.

Dolphy has also smiled for the first time since last week, MMC director Dr. Eric Nubla said.

But he continues to undergo blood transfusion because his platelet level remains low, according to the bulletin read by Nubla.

“He’s recovering. Mahirap i-quantify iyon kung full o hindi. Like they say, critical but stable and it’s one day at a time,” Nubla said.

He said more strict visitation privileges are being enforced to protect Dolphy’s health.

“Another reason is to protect Mr. Quizon’s privacy,” the hospital said.

One of the actor’s sons, Rollie Quizon, said Tuesday that one tabloid reporter tried to sneak into the hospital’s intensive care unit to get a photo of the ailing Dolphy.

The reporter, who refused to identify himself, also allegedly threatened Dolphy’s family.

In an interview with radio dzMM, the actor’s son said there is no need to violate his father’s privacy because they are regularly giving updates to the public regarding Dolphy’s health.

Dolphy is battling pneumonia for the 11th time in 11 months. He has been suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which hinders the flow of air to his lungs.

He underwent tracheostomy Saturday night β€œto alleviate from a lot of discomfort and make it easier for his organs to perform properly,” according to a statement from his family Sunday. (ABS-CBN News Online)
