Blackwater Sports opened its title campaign in grand fashion by crushing Jakarta College, 76-43, at the start of the Enjoy Jakarta Anniversary Basketball Tournament Tuesday at Hall A of GMSB Kuningan in Jakarta, Indonesia.
After a slow and tentative start, the Elite of Dioceldo Sy caught fire in the second quarter with Robby Celiz knocking in two booming triples to rip the game wide apart.
More than posting a 23-point winning margin, the win was very special for the boys of coach Leo Isaac since majority of them were first timer in an international tournament.
But that hardly showed as they dazzled the crowd with their brilliant transition plays and rock-solid defense, a performance that made them instant title favorites.
“Medyo nanibago sa simula but after the first quarter gumanda na ang laro, nagkaroon na ng system,“ said Isaac. “But we hope to improve further in our next game.”
Celiz led Blackwater’s well-balanced attack with 24 points while Allen Mangahas and Jess Bustos chipped in 12 points to the delight of team officials, led by Silliman Sy and Johnson Martines.
Initially, Blackwater was to face defending champion Thailand but organizers of the six-team tournament made a couple of changes in the scheduling.
