Azkals take on Guam XI

Manila, Philippines – The Philippine Azkals return to the place of one of their most memorable victories tonight when they battle lowly-ranked Guam in a friendly match at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City.

In the final phase of their two-week, three-match schedule, the Azkals hope to nail a victory this time when they clash with the Guamanian booters at 7 p.m.

A huge crowd is expected to gather in the Azkals’ first international match in the City of Smiles since their momentous 2-0 victory over Mongolia last year’s first leg of the pre-qualifying round for the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup.

In that encounter, Chieffy Caligdong scored underneath the legs of Mongolian goalkeeper Ganbayar Tseveensuren in the 43rd minute before Phil Younghusband sealed the deal with a late score. The Azkals eventually won 3-2 on aggregate.

The Filipino booters will have to secure a win after two disappointing draws against ASEAN powerhouses Malaysia and Indonesia. (Jonas Terrado)
