Game Today (Stadium Shah Alam, Selangor)
8:45 p.m. Malaysia vs Philippines
Manila, Philippines – A confident Philippine Azkals hope to beat Malaysia this time when they clash anew tonight in a friendly match slated at the Stadium Shah Alam in Selangor.
The Azkals try to hurdle their first of a scheduled three-match friendly over the next two weeks when they face the Malaysians on the road at 8:45 p.m.
It will be the first encounter of the two teams since late-February when they figured in a 1-all draw at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
A missile-like header by Denis Wolf in the first half appeared to have given the Filipino booters a stunning win over the Malaysians only for substitute Ahmad Shakir Mohd Ali to score in stoppage time to settle for a tie.
For this latest clash, the Azkals won’t have brothers Phil and James Younghusband and goalkeeper Neil Etheridge due to various reasons.
The Younghusbands are attending to a previous engagement while Etheridge will serve a one-game ban for his red card in the AFC Challenge Cup.
Coach Michael Weiss and the rest of the squad seemed confident about their chances this time, especially with key players back from stints with European clubs.
Stephan Schrock will play for the first time since the squad’s lost to Kuwait in last year’s World Cup qualifiers while Manny Ott, Roland Muller and Fil-German Patrick Reichel who will debut for the first time. (Jonas Terrado)
