Alden Richards gets big break

Manila, Philippines - ENTER ALDEN – Who are the a-one actors of GMA?

Richard Gutierrez and Dingdong Dantes right away comes to mind.

Not to forget Dennis Trillo.

Then come Aljur Abrenica, Mark Herras, and Rocco Nacino.

Promising are Enzo Pineda, Derrick Monasterio, Kristoffer Martin.

And, no doubt, Alden Richards.

MOVE OVER, ALJUR? – In fact, Alden is being pitted against Aljur, THE sex symbol among GMA actors. Like Aljur, Alden has the physique, which he proudly shows via pictorials for a fashion line he’s endorsing.

Alden Richards fans crow that their favorite can act and act well.

Is this a dig at Aljur whose acting is said to be wooden?

Now, in fairness, Aljur acted well in Maryo J. de los Reyes’ “Nandito Ako.” Perhaps Aljur could be given another movie (or soap) with Maryo J at the helm. Often times, it’s a matter of director and project for an actor to prove he can act.

Maryo J also directed Aljur in the GMA soap “Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin,” where the actor also did well.

But back to Alden, who surely doesn’t want Aljur for an enemy or rival. He refuses to entertain the intriga, “Move over Aljur, Alden is here.”

BIG BREAK – Alden Richards gets his big break in the GMA soap “One True Love,” which started airing on primetime last Monday. He’s cast opposite Louise de los Reyes, who’s also getting the big-star treatment in the Kapuso network.

Alden plays Tisoy in “One True Love,” growing up in the slums, the docks of Manila. Because of his mestizo looks and charming ways, neighbors call him Tisoy.

The role reminds this columnist of Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno. But that is neither here nor there.

CO-STARS – Supporting Alden and Louise in “One True Love” are Jean Garcia, Raymond Bagatsing, Bembol Roco, Caridad Sanchez, Benjie Paras, Carlene Aguilar, Tiya Pusit, Wynwyn Marquez, Lucho Ayala, Frencheska Farr, and Ms. Agot Isidro in a primera contravida role.

Agot, who used to be identified with ABS-CBN, signed up with GMA.

To date, Agot is best remembered as the villainess in “Tayong Dalawa.” But she might just top that in “One True Love,” whose plot is soap na soap.

You know, lots of cliffhangers and tearful and violent confrontations. With twists and turns along the way.
