Manila, Philippines – ALMA Moreno turned emotional as she joined calls for prayers for Dolphy, who is now in critical condition. This as their son, Vandolph, claimed that his father is already a national artist.
Moreno on Friday urged supporters of the King of Comedy to pray that he struggle no more as he continues to be under intensive care at the Makati Medical Center (MMC).
“Alam ko na maraming nagdadasal para kay Dolphy. Maraming, maraming salamat, at sana, pakiusap ko lang, ipagdasal po nating huwag nang mahirapan si Dolphy,“ Moreno told ABS-CBN News.
Moreno, who was Dolphy’s partner for eight years, said she is worried for Vandolph who also turned emotional over Dolphy’s condition.
“Noong tumawag sa’kin si Vandolph, umiiyak na siya, last week, [sabi niya,] `Ma, dumalaw ka,’“ Moreno said as she tried to hold back tears. “Nakaalalay ako sa anak ko… Kasi medyo naapektuhan si Vandolph, emosyonal masyado.“
Dolphy remains confined at the Intensive Care Unit of the MMC where he was rushed to over a week because of pneumonia.
On Friday, Eric Quizon said their father is suffering from pneumonia again and was administered with antibiotics.
Dolphy has been suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which hinders the flow of air to the lungs. The condition is generally permanent and may be progressive over time.
VISIT TO DOLPHY
Moreno had shown support to Vandolph during her recent visit to Dolphy, when she had a light moment with the veteran actor despite his condition.
Despite parting ways as a couple, Moreno said she and Dolphy have continued to be good friends a testament, she said, to the Philippine film icon’s kindness that has endeared him to the masses.
“Tapos na `yun. Ang importante, magkaibigan kami, kumbaga ngayon natutuwa ako dahil sobrang fighter ni Dolphy. Ang daming nagdadasal para sa kanya, dahil mabait na tao si Dolphy. Maraming taong nagmamahal sa kanya… Kaya hanggang ngayon, andyan parin siya lumalaban,“ Moreno said.
VANDOLPH: `DOLPHY ALREADY NATIONAL ARTIST’
Vandolph declared his admiration for his father as he accepted the “Diwa ng Lahi“ award on his behalf on Friday. The award is the highest honor conferred by the city government of Manila among its citizens.
On the growing clamor to confer on his father the highest artistic recognition ni the country the National Artist award Vandolph said it might already be “too late.“
“Ako, bahala na sila pero `pag ganun naman parang too late na, pero kung itutuloy nila, thank you parin. My dad will be really happy of course,“ Vandolph said, adding, “He deserves it talaga.“
With or without the recognitions, Vandolph grew up idolizing his father, the former child actor said.
“Idol ko `yun eh. I was born and raised beside him. Kahit comedy, movies andun ako sa tabi niya, so lahat yun tinitingnan ko… For me, national artist na ng buhay ko ang tatay ko noon pa,“ he added.
NOVA RUSHES TO SEE DOLPHY
Meantime, Nova Villa went straight from the airport to the MMC to visit her ailing longtime friend and former “Home Along Da Riles“ star.
Fresh from her US trip, Villa arrived at the hospital around 8 a.m. Saturday to personally see the condition of her friend.
“Ang bigat ng loob ko na hindi ako nakakadalaw sa kanya. Kaya ngayon, antok-antok, puyat, galing sa airport, bumawi ako at nakita ko siya. Alam niyang nandoon ako. I was just there sa window at sinabi ko lang na sabihin mo nandito ako,“ she said.
She said she was supposed to arrive in Manila on the 25th of June, but decided to reschedule her flight to visit the Comedy King.
The actress-comedian said Dolphy was awake and was responding when she arrived. “Nagko-comedy pa. You know Dolphy, no dull moments. Kahit may sakit na nagkocomedy pa. Nakadilat naman. Pag sinasabi nandyan si Tita Nova, lumalaki mata niya.“ (ABS-CBN News Online)
