Manila, Philippines – The Philippine Azkals are scheduled to face Guam on Independence Day in Bacolod City as part of their hectic three-match schedule next month.
Ranked 194th in the world, the unincorporated territory of the United States will meet the Azkals and an expected large audience at the Panaad Stadium in the Negros Occidental capital.
This is the first time that the Filipino booters will play in Bacolod
since the epic 2-0 win in the first leg of the AFC Challenge Cup qualifier against Mongolia last year.
Chieffy Caligdong’s impressive nutmeg goal in the first half set up the Azkals’ victory and eventually kick start their improbable campaign towards a third place finish in the same tournament held last March in Nepal.
Aside from the friendly with Guam, the Azkals will face reigning AFF Suzuki Cup champion Malaysia on June 1 in Kuala Lumpur before heading back home to take on Indonesia four days later at the Rizal Stadium. (J. Terrado)
