Shakey’s V-League on today

Games today
2 p.m. – Letran vs SSC
4 p.m. – Ateneo vs FEU

Manila, Philippines – Defending champion Ateneo starts its title-retention campaign today when it takes on Far Eastern University at the start of the Shakey’s V-League Season 9 at The Arena in San Juan.

Game time is at 4 p.m. with the Lady Eagles expecting to showcase their intact lineup bannered by skipper Dzi Gervacio and spiker Alyssa Valdez.

Letran and San Sebastian College raise the curtain in their 2 p.m. tussle, with both teams hoping to open up their respective title bids on a bright note.

Expect Ateneo, which claimed its first V-League crown last year at the expense of Adamson, to go full force with a deep roster that
also includes Thai spiker Lithawat Kesinee, veterans Fille Cainglet and Gretchen Ho, ace setter Jem Ferrer and libero Denden Lazaro.

Providing reinforcements are Aillysse Nacachi, Bea Tan, Ella de Jesus, Tash Faustino, Mona Bagatsing, Sarah Cruz and Mae Tajima.

FEU, however, would not be left behind as it leans on Wenneth Eulalio, Christine Agno, Charlene Gillego, May Roxas and Rose Vargas to drop an early bomb at the start of the hostilities.

In the other matchup, the San Sebastian spikers targets to regain their lost ground since reigning in the 2008 second conference of the league sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza.

The Recto crew will parade with resident Thai import Jan
Baulee, winner of four Most Valuable Player awards and Rubie De Leon.

Letran, for its part, will be backstopped by Joy Cases.

Action resumes on Thursday with returning University of Santo Tomas, a four-time first-conference champion, taking on Letran, and former champion Adamson meeting San Sebastian.

NCAA titlist Perpetual Help collide with National University in the other game of the league organized by Sports Vision.

Other teams heating up the conference are Visayan squads University of St. La Salle of Bacolod and Cebu’s Southwestern University.

The top four will clash in the crossover semis with the No. 1 team colliding with the No. 4 squad and the Nos. 2 and 3 teams disputing the other finals berths in separate best-of-three series. The finals is also a bestof-three affair. FEU coach Nes Pamilar, however, hopes to draw the best from Wenneth Eulalio, Christine Agno, Charlene Gillego, May Roxas, Toni Basas, Yvett Tutanes and Rose Vargas and pull off an early surprise in the league.

Spicing up the event are the entry of Visayan teams University of St. La Salle of Bacolod and Cebu’s Southwestern University.
