National Artist, not National Saint

Manila, Philippines – ‘NEXT NATIONAL ARTIST’ – Highspeed contributor Mel Caparas enumerates Nora Aunor’s sterling achievements, which he feels should make the Superstar the “Next National Artist.” Here they are:

One of CCP’s 100 centennial honorees.

One of Aliw Awards’ 50 live entertainers of the century.

TOWNS awardee.

Thirteen life achivement awards in various fields – movies, music, TV.

Over 50 best actress awards, including three from abroad: Cairo, Brussels, Penang (Malaysia). Plus Asia’s best actress of the decade. And four local actress of the decade trophies.

Three stage plays.

Many critically acclaimed films: “Bona,” “Ina Ka ng Anak Mo,” “Andrea,” “’Merika,” “Flor Contemplacion,” “Bakit May Kahapon Pa,” “Naglalayag,” “Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos,” “Minsa’y Isang Gamo-gamo,” “Atsay,” “Bakit Bughaw ang Langit,” “Bilangin ang Bituin sa Langit.”

And of course “Himala,” CNN’s best Asia-Pacific picture of all times.

“No more deliberations. Set aside personal life. We’re talking of achievements. We’re looking for a National Artist, NOT a National Saint,” Mel writes.

OTHER ‘NOMINEES’ – When Rep. Anthony Golez filed a resolution in Congress urging the proclamation of Nora Aunor as National Artist, others followed suit.

Other “nominees” mentioned: Vilma Santos, Dolphy, Eddie Garcia, Joseph Estrada, Rosa Rosal. Distinguished names all.

Highspeed adds another name: Armida Siguion Reyna.

And while at it, why not Lea Salonga and Cecile Licad?

Actually, Sen. Manny Villar much earlier introduced a resolution making Dolphy National Artist.

To date, only one actor has been named National Artist: Fernando Poe, Jr.

Art patron Danny Dolor is batting for violinist Gilopez Kabayao and singer Sylvia La Torre.

FINAL SAY – The President of the Philippines has the final say on who should be proclaimed National Artist.

The Cultural Center of the Philippines and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts can only recommend.

And yes, personal life has nothing to do with being a National Artist. What counts is artistic merit – impact, influence.

    We are talking about here National Artist and therefore someone the nation can be proud of. Can we proud of of someone who had been arrested for the possession of shabu? Can we proud of of someone who is known to be a gambler and alcoholic? Can we proud of someone who had abandoned her children to be with her married boyfriend in the US? Can we be proud of Nora Aunor?nnYes we are not looking for a National Saint, but we are looking for someone we can be proud of.as a Nation. Can we be proud of Nora Aunor as a Nation? If I were Malacanang, CCP and the National Commission for Culture and Arts, I will ask the people and not the Noranians who are blinded by their so much fanaticism.

      WE ARE VERY PROUD OF NORA AUNOR, BEING THE GREATEST ACTRESS THE PHILIPPINE MOVIE HAS EVER PRODUCED, BEING THE ONLY LEGIT MULTI MEDIA ARTIST THAT SHE IS. IYON LANG! IKAW LANG ANG HINDI PROUDE KASI INGGIT KA SA ACHIEVEMENTS NG SUPERSTAR.

      go ahead, ask the people and you will find out that people are are not as stupid like you…if Nora Aunor is not at all qualified bec. of shabu,gambling,alcohol,irresponsible mom and blind lover, no one is interested to bring her up to be a National Artist after all, everybody knew her past and she didn’t cover herself behind a politician or to whoever influential to the country..nnI’m just glad that you are not Malacanang, CCP and the National Culture and Arrts, you obviously don’t belong there….

      Si Vilma ba matino? anong ambag ni Vilma sa film industry ang bumili ng awards? Wala namang international recognition si Vilma, si Nora ang dami-dami. Tatlong International best actress at ilang international recognition. Kahit nagkaroon ng kasi si Nora sa USA hindi pinagbatayan iyon para hindi ibigay sa kanya ang mga awards. Si Vilma may award dahil bumili siya ng awards. hahahahaha

    Si Carlo Caparas ba eh matino ang buhay? How about Fernando Poe Jr. na kabila kabila ang ang mga babae at maraming anak outside his marriage? Lino Brocka and Ishmael Bernal are gays. Did they base their decisions on the merits of their personal lives or what they have contributed to their arts? If Dolphy would be granted a national artist title , will they base on his contributions or his polygamous life style?????nnSana mag isip itong si Jason at iba dito eh kung mag malinis eh parang mga santo. Everyone is not perfect pero tingnang maigi kung ano ang nai-contribute ni Nora sa arts na ginagalawan niya. Sobra sobra na ang naiambag niya. nnAt kung personal life din ang titingnan hindi rin perfect ang buhay ni Vilma Santos na pati may mga asawa eh pinatulan. Eh di ba pati mga films na ginawa niya eh maraming malalaswang pelikula? Asan ang artistic contributions doon? Walang kabastusan sa mga pelikula ni Nora. Ipinakita niya ang mga tutoong buhay ng bawat pinoy na gustong mabuhay at mag punyagi sa mga makabuluhang pelkulang ginawa niya. Pati sa ibang bansa ay ipinagmalaki tayo ni Nora ! Dala niya ang karangalan ng mga pinoy. nnTama sa personal na buhay ay hindi siya perpekto pero tumayo siya para maituwid ang mga pagkakamali. Ganyang ang mga pinoy marunong lumaban sa dagok ng buhay! nnKung achievements lang ang paguusapan si Nora Aunor lamang ang may impact para matawag na National Artist. Yung iba kulang pa sa qualifications sa totoo lang !

    para sabihin ko sa inyo,,,,mas karapat-dapat si Mr. Eddie Garcia para sa National artist…..gusto mo ng depensa?……..siya lang naman ang tanging artistang hole of famer sa best actor, best supporting actor at best director…..wala pang ibang nakakuha niyan……..at pansinin ang mga pelikulang lubhang tinangkilik ng mga Pilipino….lalo na ang HUKOMBITAY, HUKOM45,MAYOR ALFREDO LIM, ang batas ng Maynila, Epimaco Velasco, Boyong Manalac, KApitan Ambo, Sanggano’t sanggago….at marami pang iba….at hanggang ngayo’y aktibo pa rin siya sa paglabas sa mga Pelikula………………………………………………………………….SIYA nga dapat ang magiging National Artist……very flexible——-pwedeng bida o kontrabida, pwedeng action star o comedy star, pwedeng matong lalaki o nagbabakla-baklaan, at kahit ano pang role…..IN GOD we TRUST, IN GOD we give the final decision for this…..
