Sword’s end

Manila, Philippines – A drunken man armed with a Japanese samurai sword held his 1-year- old daughter hostage inside their home at 955 Higgins St. Saint Andrew, Brgy. Maricaban, Pasay City over the weekend, the Pasay City Police said yesterday.

Police said Carlo Suarez, a driver, held his baby captive at 9 a.m. following a fight he had with his live-in partner Renalyn. Hostage negotiations that dragged on for three hours ended after the heavily inebriated Suarez dozed off prompting police officers to barge into the house and rescue the child. (Mitch Arceo)
