Looking forward to Aunor projects

Manila, Philippines –NATATANGING GAWAD URIAN – Loyal Highspeed reader Mel Caparas suggests to the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino that Nora Aunor be the recipent of this year’s Natatanging Gawad Urian (lifetime achievement award). Mel reminds the Manunuri that Nora won six Urian best actress awards, the first to be so honored in the ’70s for “Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos.” She was nominated 10 times.

Mel adds that the critics named Nora Actor of the Decade twice and that “Himala” was chosen Film of the Decade.

Agree with Mel. But if not this year, why not next?

RICH HARVEST – The past year, since Nora Aunor returned from the US after more than five years, the Superstar has been receiving one honor after the other.

Think of those recognitions from the Philippine Movie Press Club, Gawad Tanglaw, Cinema One Originals, Original Pilipino Music, FAMAS, and CineManila – all citing her sterling achievements in the entertainment industry.

The last one is from the Entertainment Press Society, Inc., the Lino Brocka Lifetime Achievement Award. Nora starred in several Brocka films, including “Bona” and “Ina Ka ng Anak Mo.”

A rich harvest, indeed.

2012 PROJECTS – Nora’s projects this year include the filmbio of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, “El Presidente,” with ER Ejercito in the title role. She plays Aguinaldo’s second wife.

Now, is it true that director Tikoy Aguiluz is out of the picture? And that he’ll be replaced by Mark Meily?

Looking forward to her planned movie with Cannes best director Brillante Mendoza. It’s tentatively titled “The Womb.” Sana matuloy.

TV5 ARTIST – Also excited to hear Nora’s projects for TV5, her home studio. Last year, she topbilled the soap “Sa Ngalan ng Ina.”

If I may suggest, why not a soap like “Central Station,” a Brazilian movie starring Fernanda Montenegro? It’s the story of a callous woman who accompanies a young boy in search of his parent. Most moving story.

By the way, other TV5 contract stars won in the last Enpress awards night.

They include Aga Muhlach, best actor for “In the Name of Love,” which he did with Star Cinema, opposite Angel Locsin.

Also Martin Escudero and Edgar Allan Guzman, tied for best actor, “Zombadings” and “Ligo Na U, Lapit Na Me,” respectively. Kristoffer Brugada won best story for “Patikul.”
