Manila, Philippines – Five of the eight articles of impeachment against embattled Chief Justice Renato C. Corona that the prosecution panel of the House of Representatives had dropped could theoretically be revived after the lapse of one year.
This was revealed yesterday by Sen. Teofisto L. Guingona III, a political ally of President Benigno S. Aquino III, after the Senate, sitting as an impeachment court, refused Monday to dismiss with finality the five articles against the Chief Magistrate.
A Senate observer said the refusal of the Senate to finally put the issue to rest makes the threat of the five articles being refilled appears like a Sword of Damocles hanging over the head of Corona. The Constitution allows the filing of only one impeachment complaint against a respondent within a one year period. (Mario B. Casayuran)
