Manila, Philippines – Millions of fourth year public and private high school students will take the National Achievement Test (NAT) administered by the Department of Education (DepEd) today.
NAT is usually administered to second year high school students annually to gauge their academic performance in key subjects such as English, Filipino, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
However, Education Secretary Armin Luistro ordered changes in conduct of the annual examination this year to measure the knowledge that students have gained from the 10-year basic education cycle and to “use the result as an input to the K to 12 Basic Education Program.”
Aside from fourth year students, Grade 3 pupils of public elementary schools and “Madrasah“ or the Islamic religious schools and pilot schools of Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) also took the test last March 2, followed by Grade 6 pupils in public and private elementary schools last Thursday.
