Cebu buses to raise fare

ARGAO, Cebu – Passengers taking the buses to any destination in the province of Cebu will have to shell out an additional P2.50 in fare as bus operators here agreed to reinstate the original P8.50 fare for the first five kilometers.

The P8.50 minimum bus fare was originally approved by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 7 last 2008, but bus operators have agreed not to impose the said rate and instead opted for the P6-uniform rate due to tight competition.

LTFRB 7 Director Ahmeed Cuizon said that imposing fare rates lower than the granted adjustment shows that the operators have the “conscience and the heart for the public.“ However, he asked that they, too, be understood of their need to impose the adjustment this time. (Mars W. Mosqueda, Jr.)
