Booters to face Chinese Olympians

Manila, Philippines – The Philippine Azkals will likely face the China Olympic team in a friendly match slated on Independence Day at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Gracing yesterday’s PSA Forum at Shakey’s UN Avenue, Azkals team manager Dan Palami said that the Chinese booters have tentatively agreed to play the said date as part of the National team’s three friendly matches in a span of one week.

“I think the Chinese Football Federation has already accepted our invitation to play the friendly match,“ said Palami, who added the Chinese U-23 squad will also include some senior players.

Palami said that they also sent invitations to the football associations of Indonesia, Thailand and Hong Kong for possible friendlies for June 5 and 8 with the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod being eyed as a possible venue for the latter date.

The June friendlies are part of the Azkals’ preparation for the AFF Suzuki Cup set in November. They face the daunting task of at least equaling their improbable semifinal appearance two years ago.

Palami is hoping this time that those who missed the AFC Challenge Cup would be able to join the team in their preparation that includes training camps abroad and participation in the Long Teng Cup slated in Taiwan later this year.
